DTS, Image Ent. ink pact

Digital Theater Systems (DTS) has inked a three-year strategic pact with optical disc distributor Image Entertainment that will see DTS-encoded content on Image releases, whether they be CDs, DVDs, laserdiscs or some hybrid disc technology.

The deal, announced at the CEDIA '97 trade show in Atlanta, establishes an ongoing relationship between the two companies, who have worked together over the last year. The new pact gives Image the right to distribute the first DTS-encoded digital surround DVDs and enhanced CDs as they become available.

"Together, DTS and Image can bring multichannel music and movies to millions of consumers," said DTS CEO Dan Slusser. "That means today on CD and laserdisc, and in the future as DVD evolves, providing playback capability on current hardware and new hardware to come."

"Image has been aggressively looking to expand its software offerings," added the company's prexy- CEO Martin Greenwald. "This agreement helps us get to a point (at which we wish to be."
