UPN taps Levoff for movies

John Levoff has been named to the newly created position of executive producer of movies at UPN.

Levoff, most recently president of his own production company, New Frontier Entertainment, will head the netlet's new Thursday sci-fi movie franchise, scheduled to debut midseason.

Levoff formed New Frontier Entertainment in 1994, and he developed projects there in partnership with Kevin Costner's Tig Prods. and Mel Gibson's Icon Prods.

Before that, he was a partner in River City Prods., with credits including NBC's "A Family Torn Apart," HBO's "The Last of His Tribe" and CBS' "83 Hours 'Til Dawn." In the mid-1980s, Levoff worked as president of Georgian Bay Prods., and he was also a VP of MGM/UA TV.
