Diaz KABC co-anchor

Laura Diaz has been hired to replace Lisa McRee as co-anchor on the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. edition of KABC's "Eyewitness News," effective immediately.

There had been strong speculation that Diaz, who has been subbing on the newscasts since McRee left KABC to co-anchor "Good Morning America" over the summer, would get the gig (Daily Variety, Sept. 10). But it wasn't made official until Wednesday.

Diaz will also fill in anchoring the 6 p.m. newscast for the interim. The station has hired Michelle Tuzee from WSVN in Miami to take over the 6 p.m. anchor chores sometime before year's end.
