Stone, DGA settle differences
A joint statement released Wednesday said: "The Directors Guild and Vienna Prods./Rob Stone have resolved their differences in connection with the documentary film 'One Vision' and have ended the litigation between them."
DGA attorney Kevin James and Stone's legal counsel Robin Ball would not comment about the details of the settlement.
Contract dispute
In March 1996, the DGA sued Stone for fraud and breach of contract, claiming he surreptitiously obtained a copyright to "One Vision," even though he was simply hired to do the project and turn it over to the guild. The docu features interviews with such helmers as Martha Coolidge, Jonathan Demme, Randa Haines and Lawrence Kasdan, who all are plaintiffs in DGA's lawsuit.
In September 1996, Stone filed a cross-complaint against the DGA alleging the guild "suddenly demanded he give up ownership rights to the film" near the end of the project. Seeking $2 million in damages, Stone also claimed the DGA tarnished his reputation by sending out false statements to other directors.
Stone would not comment if he will retain a copyright to the project.
