Ticketmaster, Intel mix for tix
The new service, which will use Intel computing and "push" technology, is set to launch in the second quarter of 1998 as a companion to Ticketmaster Online and will boast a fully transactional ticketing system with customized listings and 3D virtual reality.
Fans can also use the panoramic viewing seating charts to locate the best seats in the venue.
The service also will feature a broad selection of merchandise from sports, theater, concert and family-events --- such as the circus or Ice Capades.
"This is a tremendous breakthrough in the delivery of live-event information tickets and merchandise," said Fred Rosen, prexy/CEO of Ticketmaster. "And with this new technology, learning about live entertainment will also become a form of entertainment."
Rosen said the unparalleled success of Ticketmaster Online inspired the creation of the new service. The online system, which officially bowed earlier this year, has clearly demonstrated consumers are eager to make purchases online as it now sells more than $3 million worth of tickets per month.
Subscribers to the service will be able to access information on more than 30,000 events, and other entertainment news at speeds surpassing the Internet. The information will be automatically downloaded onto the user computer's hard drive.
