Boovy began his career in the motion picture industry in 1952 when he was employed as a student film booker with Universal Film Exchange. Within two years he was promoted to head film booker. He later transferred to the New Orleans division.
In 1956, he joined Gulf State Theaters where he stayed until 1970 before moving to Los Angeles to be general sales manager for Dimension Pictures.
He returned to Texas the following year to work for the Texas Cinema Corp. as a film booker.
Dollar, formed in 1980, started out with one single-screen theater.
