Culver City OK's Sony expansion

The Culver City Council late Wednesday night approved Sony Pictures Entertainment's 20-year comprehensive plan and development agreement for high-rise office buildings and soundstages on the Sony Studios lot.

The vote was 4-1.

The plan allows for 1 million square feet of the facility over the next 20 years at a total projected cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Sony has already spent $ 100 million rehabilitating its Culver City lot over the last several years.

SPE senior vice president of corporate operations Kenneth S. Williams spearheaded the three-year, relatively unchallenged effort to get the plan approved by the Culver City Council.

Voting for the plan were Mayor Michael Balkman, council members Jozelle Smith , Steven Gourley and Albert Vera. Dr. James Boulgarides voted against it.
