Oz's Ten Network shrinks by 50 staffers
Web was brought out of receivership at that time by an investment consortium and is controlled by Canadian broadcaster Canwest Global Communications.
Latter recently reported solid contributions to its balance sheet from the Aussie network.
Retrenchments have been hastened following the appointment of former Canwest exec Peter Viner as chief exec in May. They culminated this week with the dismissal of four senior executives, including head of sports John Davies. Web's news department went through a similar shakeup some weeks ago.
Viner told Daily Variety many of the departures were through attrition, consolidation of roles, and restructuring. "It's small pockets of that sort of thing," he said.
He added, however, that there would be hirings as new programming came on line, including a sports show next month. The sports department needed to be trimmed to reflect less coverage, specifically the rugby league, which Ten lost last year.
Ten meanwhile continues to state it has no immediate plans for going public, despite the successful float of the Seven Network over the last few weeks.
