Woman urged for FCC post
Women in Communications and American Women in Radio & Television made their requests in recent letters to White House personnel director Bruce Lindsey.
Three of the five FCC slots are occupied by men, and President Clinton has nominated a fourth male -- Reed Hundt -- to serve as chairman of the agency.
The women's groups noted in their letters that if a woman is not appointed, it would be the first time in more than 20 years that the FCC consisted solely of men.
The White House is expected to soon nominate a replacement for Marshall, whose seat will be filled by either a Republican or an independent.
