Ducks skate on KCAL

Demonstrating the synergy Disney executives are so fond of discussing, the studio's local station KCAL-TV will broadcast 20 games during the coming inaugural season of Disney's expansion hockey team, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

No broadcast schedule has been set, but the station will carry a mix of home and away games, beginning with the National Hockey League team's home opener in October.

KCAL is also the longtime home of the Los Angeles Lakers and carries a number of Los Angeles Raiders football games. Currently, independent KCOP carries the Los Angeles Clippers, while Tribune-owned KTLA has both of the market's pro baseball franchises, the Los Angeles Dodgers and California Angels.

Disney was only recently granted the Ducks franchise, followed by the L.A. Kings' fortuitously timed run in the NHL playoffs, spurring local interest in the sport.

Terms of the intra-studio arrangement weren't disclosed.
