Flop Dietrich musical closes in Berlin
Producer Friedrich Kurz, who had hoped to put the show on until 2000, said costs were too high and audiences too small to continue.
The musical took its title from the Pete Seeger song Dietrich used in her stage act well into her 70s.
The show used scenes from the classic 1920s German movie "The Blue Angel" and other temptress roles from her Hollywood career.
See-saw story line
Critics panned the confusing story line, which jumped between Dietrich's career and modern German actors doing a Marlene show.
It was revamped to eliminate the modern side of the story, but still did not draw audiences.
Kurz had said he hoped to take the musical to Broadway if it was a hit in Berlin.
Dietrich died in Paris last year at age 90 and was buried in Berlin.
She had not visited her hometown for decades because of lingering animosity from some Germans who saw her as a traitor for having become a U.S. citizen and entertaining U.S. troops during World War II.
