New foes confront 'Hero'

Heading into its second weekend, Columbia's "Last Action Hero" should finish its first seven days with $ 22 million in the till.

Following an opening weekend gross of $ 15.3 million, the Arnold Schwarzenegger fantasy-adventure saw Monday business of $ 1.9 million.

Subsequent daily figures have been $ 1.8 million Tuesday, $ 1.4 million Wednesday and an estimated $ 1.5 million Thursday.

Industry analysts are predicting the picture will take a 40%-50% hit during its second week. With a continued downward spiral, some are wondering how the studio will be able to maintain some current playdates past the July 4 weekend.

Asidefrom "Jurassic Park," the pic this weekend faces stiff competition from TriStar's debut of "Sleepless in Seattle" and Buena Vista's expansion of "What's Love Got to Do With It."
