U puts Castaneda in int'l pub post

Thomas Castaneda has been upped to the newly created position of director of international publicity for Universal Pictures.

In his new job, he will be responsible for developing and coordinating international release campaigns, including all film festival activities, for Universal releases.

He moves into the post from being senior publicist for U's international publicity, working on such films as "Midnight Run,""Twins,""Do the Right Thing, ""Kindergarten Cop,""Jungle Fever,""Far and Away,""Death Becomes Her" and "Scent of a Woman."

He will continue to work with the international press and serve as a liaison to the London offices of United Intl. Pictures, which distributes U product abroad.

He joined the studio in 1982 as an assistant in domestic publicity and market research, was promoted to junior publicist in 1986 and senior publicist in 1988.
