Douglas to receive 8th AmCin nod
The timing of the event is ideal for Douglas, who will return to the U.S. after a summer hiatus at his resort in Spain, according to Ron Meyer, his agent at Creative Artists Agency.
Meyer said Douglas is scanning several projects but has not committed to his next movie. Thesp hasn't been before cameras since his role as the American anti-hero D-Fens in "Falling Down."
"Michael Douglas is one of the most successful artist-entrepreneurs in the industry. He is unique in that he is not only one of our most accomplished and well-respected producers, but he also shares the rarefied air of stardom with only a handful of leading men," said Cinematheque chair Sydney Pollack.
"We salute him for bringing to the screen 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,' " said Pollack, citing the film that won Douglas a best picture Oscar at the age of 31. His producing credits include "The China Syndrome,""Romancing the Stone, ""The Jewel of the Nile" and "Made in America."
Douglas was chosen by the selection committee, headed by Cinematheque VP Robert L. Stein, a founder of United Talent Agency.
Board member Joni Sighvatsson will exec produce the Moving Picture Ball with his Propaganda Films partner, Steve Golin.
Douglas will receive his award Sept. 29 at the BevHilton. Tickets are $ 700, $ 400 and $ 300.
