UCLA plans Festival '93

The UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television and its alumni association begin their annual tribute to student talent, UCLA Festival '93, June 11.

The school will present Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates with the UCLA Acting Award. A special encomium will go to alumnus Gary Essert, UCLA Class of ' 64, founder of the L.A. Intl. Film Exposition (Filmex) and head of the American Cinematheque, who died of AIDS complications last December.

The weeklong gala includes screenings of new student films and awards to skilled artists and accomplished alumni. James Earl Jones will speak and then be honored on the final day of the festival, June 19.
