Gene Howard

Gene Howard, former big band vocalist and noted portrait photographer, died April 28 of a heart attack while on vacation in Arizona.

He was 72.

Howard began his career singing with several big bands in the '40s and later joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra as a singer and arranger. He remained with the group until 1953.

He then worked as a celebrity photographer at his Studio Five gallery on Robertson Boulevard.

He is survived by wife, Marge; two daughters and four grandchildren. Memorial services were held May 7.
