INS hits Disneyland with fine
Robert Reed, an Immigration and Naturalization Service special agent, said Wednesday that investigators discovered 1,156 paperwork violations during a review of Disneyland employee records.
The review also showed that about 150 employees had questionable work papers, including fake "green cards" or counterfeit Social Security cards, Reed said.
Disney called the violations "technical."
"We're proud of our hiring record," company spokesman John McClintock said. "There is no evidence of the intentional hiring of any illegal aliens."
Disney has 2 1/2 weeks to pay the $ 394,840 fine, settle with the INS or ask for a hearing, Reed said, calling it the largest fine ever imposed by the INS.
McClintock said Thursday that Disney will ask for a hearing and fight to keep from having the fine imposed.
