Streep going for thrills with role in 'River Wild'

Meryl Streep has been set to star in "River Wild," a Turman/Foster production for Universal, which will go before the cameras in July. Co-producer Larry Turman confirmed the casting of Streep in a change-of-pace action thriller role.

Based on an original script by Denis O'Neill, with additional writing by Bruce Evans and Ray Gideon, the story involves a married couple and their son on a river-rafting vacation. The trio are abducted by two escaped killers and forced to take them through treacherous waters to elude pursuing lawmen.

Curtis Hansen, who most recently was involved in "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," is directing. Turman said locations will likely be in Oregon and Idaho. No other casting has been set, according to the co-producer.

In addition to "River Wild," the veteran producing partnership is involved with Largo in "The Getaway," now filming for Universal.
