WHV's 'Unforgiven' vid out July 7

Having lassoed four major Academy Awards and helped revive a nearly dormant genre, Clint Eastwood's revisionist Western "Unforgiven" will be released on homevideo by Warner Home Video July 7, backed by a concerted advertising campaign.

WHV has announced a price of $ 99.99 for the critically and commercially successful film, which has roped in more than $ 92 million at the domestic box office.

The pic has the obvious benefit of a fusillade of awards, among them best picture and director Oscars.

The vid distributor is supporting this release with network television advertising as well as targeted cable outlets such as A&E, ESPN, CNN, TBS and VH-1.

"Unforgiven" is part of WHV's Profit Power Program, used previously with the releases of "Memoirs of an Invisible Man,""The Mambo Kings" and "White Sands." The strategy is designed to give a video release extended rental life.

WHV also will install a point-of-purchase hotline for posters, "previously viewed" merchandising stickers and a continuous-loop in-store reel featuring TV special "Eastwood & Co.: 'Making Unforgiven.' "

The company is releasing "Unforgiven" in July to capitalize on publicity generated by Eastwood's next film, "In the Line of Fire," which is due July 9.
