'The Paper' delivers Close

Glenn Close has signed to star opposite Michael Keaton in Imagine/Universal's "The Paper," producer Brian Grazer confirmed Thursday.

The film, which will be directed by Ron Howard from David Koepp and Stephen Koepp's screenplay, is scheduled to go into production July 19 in Manhattan.

"The Paper" is the story of 24 hours in the life of the fictional New York Sun newspaper. Close will play the managing editor of the tabloid, while Keaton plays the senior editor.

The film marks Howard's first directing assignment since "Far and Away," which was released last year.

According to Grazer, Close was at the top of the list of potential actresses for the role.

"She's someone that Ron has always wanted to work with," Grazer said.
