Perez set to co-star in '$ 2 Million Tip'
Budgeted at $ 20 million, "Cop" will be directed by Andrew Bergman and produced by Mike Lobell. Bergman was hired to rewrite and direct "Cop" in January.
Originally written by Jane Anderson and rewritten by Stephen Metcalfe, "Cop" is about a transit cop and a waitress who share a winning ticket in the New York State Lottery. In a series of misadventures that follow, the cop and waitress fall in love.
Nicolas Cage is reported to be close to finalizing a deal to play the cop. Fonda will limn the waitress, while Perez is cast as the truculent wife of the cop. Creative Artists Agency's Jane Berliner represented Perez in negotiations.
TriStar VP of production Kevin Misher shepherds "Cop" at the studio. Film's exec producers are Gary Adelson and Craig Baumgarten
"Cop" is the latest in a series of movies that have recently invigorated TriStar's production slate, including Ned and Nancy Graham Tanen's "Cops and Robbersons" and "Guarding Tess," director Ed Zwick's "Legends of the Fall," the third installment in the "Look Who's Talking" series and director Kenneth Branagh's "Frankenstein."
