Dis plunks down cash for 'Check'
In addition to selling their screenplay for what sources said was "a significant amount," the duo has signed a first-look deal at the studio covering their services as writers and producers.
The deal was hammered out by Snyder and Colby's agent, Hilary Wayne, in conjunction with attorneys Alan Wertheimer and Jamie Mandelbaum of Armstrong & Hirsch. On the studio side, Disney exex David Hoberman and David Vogel were instrumental in getting the project set up at Disney.
"Blank Check," which will be produced by Craig Baumgarten and Gary Adelson, is a comedy about a 9-year-old boy who is mistakenly given a signed blank check and fills it out for $ 1 million. Snyder and Wayne will serve as the film's executive producers.
The deal closed Thursday, just two days after the script was sent out -- in a backpack stuffed with fake money -- to a select group of producers that included Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy at Paramount, Gale Anne Hurd at Universal, Cary Woods and Rob Fried at TriStar and Michael Harpster at New Line.
Less than a year ago, Snyder and James Haggin sold their spec script "Nuclear Family" to Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures in a deal that was reportedly valued at $ 750,000 against $ 1 million.
