Ex-MTA agent Phillips now at Morris pic wing
Phillips assumes his post today.
He will report directly to the agency's head of worldwide motion pictures, Arnold Rifkin, working both on the literary and talent side.
He brings with him clients including writers Noah Stern, whose movie "The Opposite Sex" opened this past weekend through Miramax and whose script "VJ" has been sold to Propaganda; John Shirley, whose credits include "The Crow,""The Specialist" and "New Rose Hotel"; Roger Wilson, whose "Missing inAmerica" is being developed by director Penny Marshall at Columbia; and Diane Wilk, whose spec script "Things Happen" sold to Cinema Line earlier this month.
In the past month, Phillips brokered the Wilk and Stern spec sales as well as booking the feature directing debut of Jim Yukich on Imperial Entertainment's "Double Dragon."
Phillips joined MTA last October as a motion picture lit agent from his post as a production VP at Beckner-Gorman Prods., where he was instrumental in shepherding Michael Beckner and Jim Gorman's deal with Eddie Murphy to write and produce a period western for the star (Daily Variety, June 29).
