Jay Burton

Jay Burton, a longtime Hollywood comedy writer for such stars as Bob Hope, died from complications of diabetes.

He was 77.

Burton died March 24 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Burton, a native of New York City, got his professional start when Hope immediately hired him after he submitted three pages of one-liners.

He later wrote material for Milton Berle, "The Dinah Shore Show,""Hollywood Palace,""The Perry Como Show,""The Dean Martin Show" and others.

Burton is survived by his brother Marvin.

A service in Los Angeles was being planned. Burial will be in New Jersey.
