'Preston' drafted for WB/Renfield

Warner Bros. has optioned Steven Kampmann's screenplay "Preston" for $ 100, 000 against $ 500,000. Renfield Prods.' Mike Finnell and Joe Dante will co-produce.

Kampmann -- who previously wrote Jodie Foster starrer "Stealing Home"-- will write his second draft of the father/son comedy after directing a pilot for Fox called "By Mikey Wyatt," according to his agent, David Gersch.

Renfield Prods.' has a first-look deal with Universal, but when that studio passed on the project, Finnell took it to Philippe Rousselet and Lorenzo di Bonaventura at WB.

Yarn is "a very charming father/son comedy," Finnell said. "It about an adopted (adult) kid who finally meets his long lost father. This middle-aged man is suddendly confronted with an adult son. It's very funny."
