Doering will help the IA to develop a long-term strategy as the union continues the battle to keep below-the-line crew members unionized in Hollywood and nationwide.
He was voted into this job by a unanimous vote of the Local's executive board.
"Neither the IATSE nor Local 659 can afford to stand still," said Local 659 prexy George Spiro Dibie. "We need someone of Bruce's caliber to develop new contracts and an innovative approach to expanding union production in Hollywood."
Doering, who holds a law degree from UCLA, joined the camera guild as an assistant business rep in 1985. He quickly moved to the job of biz rep in 1986 and began working on areas of immigration law. He also was put in charge of negotiating and administering the Guild's 30-plus contracts.
He has been involved in recent union fights, notably the IATSE's continuing battle to unionize the set of CBS' "Love and War."
"Bruce has done an excellent job representing our guild during some very difficult times," Dibie commented.
Doering has signed a five-year contract as the Local's executive director.
Business Rep George J. Toscas will continue to supervise the Local's administrative affairs.
