Spectrum Holobyte raises $ 10.3 mil

Spectrum HoloByte Inc. confirmed it has raised another $ 10.3 million, along with an investment from Paramount Communications Inc.

As previously reported, Paramount's Technology Group had been rumored to be making an equity stake in the Alameda-based video game developer (Daily Variety, Feb. 12).

Edison Brothers Stores of St. Louis and venture capital firms Vertex Management in Redwood City and Berkman Associates also have joined the investor pool.

Spectrum had raised an earlier round of $ 4 million last year.

Both Paramount and Edison have a contract with Spectrum to develop a virtual reality software program for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" that will appear in shopping centers and arcades.
