Fisher, Buttafuoco meeting sidetracked

Paramount Domestic TV's "Hard Copy" was unable to bring off a confrontation between convicted felon Amy Fisher and victim Mary Jo Buttafuoco in time to cap off the February Nielsen sweeps.

Instead the TV tabloid strip aired a report Wednesday night of the "behind-the-scenes" negotiations for this latest story.

"Copy" was in discussions with both sides to air a face-to-face meeting between Fisher and Mary Jo Buttafuoco, to originate from the upstate New York prison where Fisher is incarcerated. However, things apparently broke down when a representative for the Buttafuocos stepped in demanding money in the high six-figure range, according to "Hard Copy" exec producer Peter Brennan.

"No specific figure was ever put to us that was anywhere within the bounds of reality," said Brennan, who added that his blueprints "didn't involve money, nor was any money offered by us."

"We made it clear" that "our ability to cover it would go out the window if it was going to become a circus. That's where it seems to be headed."

However, according to a spokeswoman, "The show believes this confrontation will eventually take place." She said the idea for the meeting originated with "Hard Copy."

A spokeswoman for King World's "Inside Edition" said that show also had been approached jointly for a Fisher-Buttafuoco meeting, but "we're not in the business of staging news."
