Jackson-Oprah special set for worldwide airing

The King of Pop is going global, seeking new ratings conquests.

King World International announced yesterday it has licensed the ABC Network spec, "Michael Jackson Talks ... To Oprah -- 90 Prime Time Minutes With the King of Pop," to more than 50 countries worldwide.

King World, which distributes Oprah Winfrey's daytime talkshow, recently concluded sales with, among others, the BBC (United Kingdom), TVE (Spain), Network Ten (Australia), TV3 (New Zealand), RTL4 (Netherlands), TVGlobo (Brazil) and Global Network (Canada).

Fred Cohen, president, King World International, said Germany's RTL Plus and France's Canal Plus aired the program live for their European viewership. King World also will be offering the program at MIP-TV.

The interview, which aired Feb. 10, scored a 39.3 rating, 56 share in Nielsen nationally, the highest returns for a prime time entertainment entry since "The Day After" hit 46/62 on Nov. 20, 1983 (Daily Variety, Feb. 12).
