Hemdale buys 'Love,' 'Tehachapi'

Hemdale Communications has acquired all North American rights to female buddy pic "Tehachapi" for $ 1.3 million, sources said.

In helmer Lisa Gottlieb's pic, two women from opposite sides of the tracks meet when their boyfriends are sentenced to Tehachapi prison.

Christina Applegate stars with Elizabeth Pena in this low-budget indie produced by Robert Mickelson and scripted by Stephen Schneck. A summer theatrical release is in the offing.

Hemdale has also acquired all world rights to "Love Your Mama," marking the scripting and directorial debut of Ruby L. Oliver.

Platformed launch starts March 5 in seven cities, including L.A. and N.Y.; slow rollout starts March 26.
