Gerard Depardieu and Roman Polanski will be acting together on a French-Italian co-production directed by Italian Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore.
Budgeted at $ 22 million, "A Simple Formality" starts rolling in Italy next month.
Scripted by Tornatore, "A Simple Formality" is a drama about a murder suspect suffering from amnesia who kills a policeman during a cruel interrogation.
He's in for a shocking revelation when he awakens the following day.
Pic will be co-produced by Mario and Vittorio Cecchi Gori for the family banner C.G. Tiger Cinematografica, and by French company Film PAR Film. Penta Intl. in London is handling all but French and Italo distribution rights.
Tornatore won the foreign-language film Oscar in 1991 for "Cinema Paradiso." Since then he has been under contract with Penta Film, searching for the right project. Last year he directed an episode for the Titanus Distribuzione production "Especially on Sunday."
