Some women news exex out-earn men

Female radio news directors make more money annually than male counterparts, but only in midsized markets, according to a new study done for the Radio-Television News Directors Assn.

The studio found that typically, female radio news directors earn $ 19,000 per year, compared to $ 17,600 for men.

Men made more money than women in the largest (more than 1 million population) and smallest radio markets (less than 50,000), the study found.

In TV, the median pay for female news directors was $ 35,250 in 1991, up 8% from 1990. Male news directors' median pay was $ 46,500, down 2% from a year earlier, per the study.

The survey was written for RTNDA by U. of Missouri journalism professor Vernon Stone.
