Nuell ankles 'E.T.' for greener TV pastures

"Entertainment Tonight" topper David Nuell is ankling the hit syndicated mag for parts yet unknown.

Nuell issued a statement to "E.T." staffers that as of Dec. 31, 1992, when his current contract expired, he was cleaning out his desk after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal with parent company Paramount.

Nuell could not be reached for comment.

According to "E.T." sources, Par had wanted Nuell to have a consulting role on the show and the studio's other syndicated newsmag, "Hard Copy," as part of an overall TV development deal. But Nuell obviously decided he'd find greener pastures elsewhere. "I've made no secret of my desire to devote a great part of my energy to developing my own ideas into TV programs and series," said Nuell in a memo to "E.T." staffers. "And that's the direction I will be going..."
