HBO buys added stake in Scandinavian pay-TV
The larger piece boosts HBO's holdings in TV1000 to 31.25%, second to Kinnevik's 62.5%.
Canal Plus holds the remaining 6.25%. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
300,000 subscribers
TV1000 is Scandinavia's biggest pay-TV service, reaching about 300,000 subscribers.
The channel offers movies, children's programming, sports and music specials. In September, TV1000 created FilmMax, an all-movie channel.
TV1000 recently recast its programming schedule for the fall, which was highlighted by the addition of the service's first made-for, a gameshow.
The gameshow airs once a week for a half-hour between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. when the service is unencrypted.
During the second half-hour, TV1000 airs previews of films and programs.
Subscriber growth has been brisk for TV1000 over the last year. Part of the growth can be attributed to the merger of TV1000 and SF Succe, which included an increase in air time, and the introduction of hard-core pornography programming.
