MCA taps Ordower exec VP

MCA Music Entertainment Group yesterday tapped former Ogden Entertainment exec Fred Ordower for the new position of executive VP, live entertainment, consolidating the activities of MCA Concerts, Facility Merchandising Inc. and Winterland Prods.

Ordower is only the second executive VP at MCA Music, joining Zach Horowitz on that level.

Chairman Al Teller said the appointment, which will see the presidents of the three divisions report to Ordower, was done to take advantage of several business prospects in live entertainment, particularly in the international market.

"The globalization of the music business has been going on for a number of years," Teller said. "That doesn't mean just the record side."

Among the areas Teller targeted for growth by the live entertainment division: additional facilities, creating live entertainment events for MCA-owned venues and others, exploring pay-per-view and other media.

Ordower has been a VP of Ogden Entertainment Services since 1987, a company that provides facility management, food and beverage concessions and novelty merchandising to various venues domestically and internationally. He also headed Ogden Presents, a division that generated events for Ogden facilities. Ordower was formerly a principal in Jam Prods., a leading Midwest concert promoter.

Events like the Lollapalooza Festival '92, last year's big money-maker on the concert circuit, were targeted by Ordower as a potential role model for the future of live entertainment and development of new artists.

"We'll see more versions," he predicted. "It's clearly an important part of the cutting edge of live entertainment."
