TriStar inks thriller pitch
The pact, which closed late last week, was based on an original idea by HorsePower principals Sean Bailey and Cooper Layne. The pair will produce the pic.
The story will be written by Blake Masters, a sought-after scribe who recently landed a pair of pitch pacts with Warner Bros., including "The Black Ten."
TriStar execs Amy Baer, Chris Lee and Ben Cosgrove nabbed the pitch in a preemptive bid while several other studios circled, according to sources. United Talent's J.J. Harris repped HorsePower.
Described as a military event pic about the disappearance of the U.S. Navy's prototype stealth destroyer after an incident in the North Atlantic, the "Dreadnaught" pitch marks the latest addition to the burgeoning HorsePower's development slate.
HorsePower is currently producing "Foolproof" at Universal Studios with Chris Moore and "The Core" at Paramount Pictures along with producer David Foster. The latter is currently out to directors.
The firm last week also made its first foray into TV by inking a pact to create a one-hour drama with 20th Century Fox Television through veteran showrunner Gordon Greisman's overall deal at the studio.
