Phoebe Dwiggins Ballard

Phoebe Dwiggins Ballard, widow of novelist and telewriter Willis Todhunter Ballard, died Oct. 7 after a lengthy illness in her Woodland Hills home.

She was 82.

She collaborated with her husband on an array of mystery and Western novels, including "Gold in California," which won the 1965 Golden Spur Award from Western Writers of America.

Her husband's TV credits included "Death Valley Days." He died in 1980.

She is survived by a niece and nephew and longtime friend and conservator Sue Dwiggins Worsley, a retired writer and production coordinator.
