Argentina's SuperCanal taps Galli

Exec named general manager of network

BUENOS AIRES -- Supercanal has hired telco specialist Luis Galli as general manager of Argentina's third-biggest cabler.

He will work to improve efficiency, cut costs and expand into broadband connections and telephony, helping boost revenue per user, the company said.

An accountant, Galli was previously at Ertach, a broadband and wireless telco in Buenos Aires where he was named telco CEO of 2006 by industry group Grupo Convergencia. He worked there from 1998 to 2007 and previously held positions at energy, entertainment and real estate investor Sociedad Comercial del Plata and airline Aerolineas Argentinas.

Based in the western province of Mendoza, Supercanal has 415,000 subscribers in smaller markets around the country. It trails the Buenos Aires-based leaders Cablevision with 1.3 million and Multicanal with 870,000.

Main shareholders in Supercanal include Mendoza media conglom Grupo Uno and Multicanal.
