Monday's announcement caps the 11-day fest, mart and confab, which saw a 25% increase in attendance this year, with 85,000 admissions taking in 172 Canadian and international films at more than 240 screenings.
Helmers Pierre Mignault and Helene Magny's "Shock Waves," about the impact of community-based radio in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, won the Canadian Intl. Development Agency prize for Canadian documentary on international development, which comes with a $5,000 cash prize.
Hot Docs saw 2,210 industry delegates, accredited media and official delegations from around the world take part in professional and market events, while the two-day Toronto Documentary Forum saw a record 500 participants, including 130 buyers.
